Generation Alpha Blues
I try to stay hopeful, but it’s hard—especially after Uvalde. I wonder what my almost nine-year-old granddaughter really thinks about what is going on in the world today. On one hand, it’s important to discuss these things honestly. On the other, it’s difficult to know the right way to approach children. You don’t want to scare them. But when you consider what her generation has experienced before they turned 10, you might be frightened by their answers.
I wrote lyrics for a song I invite someone to write. It is much darker than I expected. I hope people don’t take it as a sign of despair, but heed it as a warning. If we don’t make life better for our children, these are the consequences we will face.
If you write music to these lyrics, please post a link in the comments.

I was born not long ago in two thousand thirteen.
The unluckiest generation the world has ever seen.
You talk about Millennials and those Gen Zers too.
But Generation Alpha will have it worse than you.
I’m too young to remember when Obama was the chief.
Hope and change and Hamilton, it all seemed much too brief.
I spent my preschool years watching Donald on the news,
And those fine tiki torchers chant they won’t be replaced by Jews.
